Photo of the Day: Team Javan Pool a.k.a. Young Money (Day 2)

Group 7 counselors Mohammad Modarres and Tara Safaie jump in excitement during their team chant.

Capturing an action shot at the perfect time is never easy. The reason why I chose this picture is because Mohammad and Tara have been doing this “jump” all week and every time I haven’t been able to click the shutter at the right time. This picture encompasses the spirit demonstrated by all the campers and staff during the presentation of the group chants.

Photo of the Day: Happy Birthday Nicki! (Day 1)

Payum Abtahi (left) holds a birthday cake for Nicki Sadeghipour (right) who received a wonderful surprise on her special day.

The “Photo of the Day” posts are something I wanted to do in order to contribute an artistic and meaningful tidbit from each day. Apart from the interesting contrast of shadows and warm candlelight, I chose this photograph because everyone looks overjoyed and energetic; a perfect way to describe the environment of the first day at camp. Not to mention, Nicki’s combined expression of surprise and embarrassment is priceless.

Day 6 – Presentations and Dance

Tonight was the second-to-last evening at Camp Ayandeh this year.  All week camp groups had prepared Teatro skits to share with one another, and tonight they showed them off.  The skits, which were a hybrid between conflict resolution and inside jokes, proved extremely funny.  They were all also extremely well ...
